The magic of making and not having a destination
a live painting session tomorrow and two single rooms just became available for my France Retreat
I just finished the last few touches on my paintings in preparation for tomorrow’s live Zoom class, and I wanted to share them with you.
It always starts the same way: I open my sketchbook, brush in hand, with no plan and no expectations. Just movement. A scribble, a swirl, a meandering line. And then, something shifts. The noise fades, space opens up, and for a moment, I can hear myself again.
This is why we make things. Not for the end result, not because we have it all figured out, but because the act itself is enough. It reminds us who we are.
If you’d like to paint alongside me, I’d love for you to join my live Zoom class tomorrow—Saturday, March 1st, from 2–4:15 EST. Can’t make it live? No worries. Everyone who signs up gets the recording.
This session is all about color—intuitive, expressive, playful. I’ll share pages from my sketchbooks, talk about how I gather inspiration, and walk you through a full mixed-media painting, step by step. You’ll get to see my process in real time, from that first uncertain mark to the final touches.
I’ll be working with a black water-soluble pencil, watercolors, and high-flow acrylics, but please feel free to use whatever supplies you love. You’ll also get a full materials list when you sign up.
My husband, Brian, will be there to relay your questions from the chat while I paint, and the class is donation-based and open to all—a quiet pocket of time to step away from the noise and sink into the joy of making.
Also, exciting news—two single rooms just became available for my painting retreat in France this May! If you’ve been thinking about it, this could be the perfect opportunity. I’d love for you to be part of a week filled with color, connection, and inspiration in the French countryside.
Hope to see some of you in class tomorrow!
With love,
Juliette
